If you’re staying with us next month, you’re in for a fantastic treat! The stunning, historic port of Charlestown – a UNESCO World Heritage site and a famous filming location for shows like Poldark – is just a short, easy bus ride away.
Best of all, the whole village will be celebrating with the annual Charlestown Regatta. This isn’t just a single event; it’s a week-long festival of fun and community spirit for all ages, and it’s happening right on the doorstep of Little Winnick!
A Week of Unforgettable Events
The Charlestown Regatta is packed with exhilarating activities that truly capture the spirit of our beloved corner of Cornwall. You can spend your afternoons watching the thrilling sailing and gig races as teams battle it out on the water, or join the crowd cheering on the hilarious and often chaotic raft races.
The energy is infectious!
Throughout the week, the harbour comes alive with live music, vibrant entertainment, a really good selection of local street food, and a fantastic, community spirit.
The week culminates in a spectacular fireworks display that lights up the historic harbour and the bay, creating a magical end to the festivities. There’s something new and exciting happening every day, so do bookmark it as the perfect destination for a spontaneous day trip when you’re staying with us.
More Than Just a Regatta
While the regatta is the main draw, the charm of Charlestown itself is worth the visit alone. As you walk toward the harbour, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The historic harbour, with its tall ships and beautifully preserved buildings, offers a glimpse into a bygone era. You can stroll along the iconic harbour wall for breathtaking views of the coastline. Or simply find a bench to watch the world go by.
For a bit of peace and quiet, the small, sheltered sandy beach is a hidden gem. It’s perfect for a bit of rock pooling with the kids or simply relaxing with a book. Don’t tell anyone, but this sheltered beach can be a lovely little sun-trap so it is the perfect place to enjoy a picnic.
Charlestown offers a wonderful blend of history, natural beauty, and modern-day charm. From the moment you arrive, you’re transported to what feels like a Poldark set with the tall ships and their masts looming over the harbour. And with a clutch of coffee shops and cosy pubs to refuel you, it is a day out we recommend to all of our guests. But if you’re here during Regatta week – 2nd to 8th August – then you’re in for a real treat.
