Pasty, Pasty on my plate, who’s the fairest of them all?

When in Cornwall it is without doubt rude not to try a pasty…or two.  We take great pride in trying to find the best pasty of them all, and this week with friends visiting we sent them off with one soul aim; to bring us home an ‘Ann’s Pasty’ from the Lizard.

The Full Story:

When in Cornwall it is without doubt rude not to try a pasty…or two.  We take great pride in trying to find the best pasty of them all, and this week with friends visiting we sent them off with one soul aim; to bring us home an ‘Ann’s Pasty’ from the Lizard.  They failed at attempt one – Ann’s Pasty does not open on Sundays, so off they went on Tuesday again in search of that allusive pasty.  My oh my, it was worth the journey for them.  It is up there as one of my best ever pasties, even better than mother in laws.  Ann’s Pasty is a must try if you are coming this way in my very humble opinion!  But if you taste an outstanding pasty let us know where you got it from so we can try it too.  A Cornish warning though… please only suggest the best steak pasties – any other flavours are not a proper pasty (according to the Cornish)!

As well as pasties Cornwall does festivals, feasts and community events very well.  There is still a strong sense of community and pride in such events here.  Last weekend we headed to Tregony Heavy Horse Show.  In it’s 37th year the show attracts some of the best heavy horses around, along with some of the smallest shetland ponies too.  Now horses are not really my thing, but even I was impressed by their shear strength and grandeur.  The girls particuarly liked the ice cream and their first taste of candy floss.  Our youngest licked her fingers then when in for more and couldn’t understand why she was so sticky and covered in ‘fluff’!

This weekend sees the welcome return of St Ewe Country Fair, just up the road from Little Winnick.  The local country fair is well known of it’s farming demos, brass bands, welly wangying, Punch and Judy and many more loved family activities – well worth a visit if you are in the area.

This week has been one of the best August weather weeks we have had in a long time.  It has been glorious, from sunrise to sunset.   Guests have been coming into reception a little pinker than when they arrived and recounting stories of long lazy days on the beach.  Perfect.  Now there is a slight dip in the weather from today until Sunday.  In fact it is looking pretty windy Friday night through to Saturday afternoon which is worth baring in mind if you are set to travel or arrive on those days.
